Welcome my Steamer brothers and sisters.
My first experience of Steampunk was when two friends of mine took me to see an Abney Park concert in London. I loved the music but I was blown away by the costumes people were wearing. Later that year I attended the first Lincoln Asylum event and I was hooked. I loved the people and the style but most importantly I was fascinated with the costumes, the contraptions and the gadgets people had made. The imagination and ingenuity of the Steampunks was breath taking.
The following year I attended with the wonderful Lady Nikki Price and we both became totally entranced with the whole scene. It's brought us great enjoyment, new friends and fired our creative imaginations. I think I'd been looking most of my life for something I didn't know existed and it was then, at the Asylum, that I had, what Professor Elemental called an "Oh there you are!" moment. |
So, what have I been doing in those years in between? Well, I’ve written parts one and two of a very well-received Steampunk adventure series of novels set on Mars in the late 19th century.
I created the FB page The Steampunk Community Bookshop to showcase Steampunk authors. I established Steamcycle, the Steampunk freecycle FB page.
I’ve won 4 awards for my Steampunk Artwork and sold several pieces.
I’ve helped establish the Steampunks of Gloucestershire community group, and together with the Gloucester Civic Trust, we ran our first Convivial in Nov 2021 to raise funds to save the Folk of Gloucester (Bishop Hoopers House) in Gloucester. It was a huge success and raised £3000 for the Folk.
And as of right now, I’m organising two Steampunk events for next year at the Folk.
